Mother Seton

Elizabeth Ann – MOTHER SETON – As the first native-born American citizen to be canonized a saint, the Red, White and Blue salutes this Mother of Charity whose life is sown in the garden of freedom.  Pope Saint Paul VI hails Mother Seton as “Wholly American” – “The first flower in the calendar of the saints.” He instructed us to “Be proud of her and know how to preserve her fruitful heritage.” St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s selfless motherhood would become the roots for so many holy vocations and for numerous academic institutions, one of which was the first free catholic school in America.  As foundress of “The Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph’s,” she would thence be referred to simply as Mother Seton.
